Born in Rochester, New York on January 2, 1971, Diggs is one of the few actors of his generation to find success on stage and tv as well as film. No doubt his diverse skill set is in part due to the BFA in musical theater he received from Syracuse University. (Diggs also earned his nickname ???Taye??? there, after college pals started calling him ???Scottaye.???) He earned accolades with is Broadway debut in 1996`s Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning Rent and later appeared in the off-Broadway production of The Wild Party, where he met his wife, actress Idina Menzel. Diggs tested out TV waters with a stint on Guiding Light and then turned heads in Hollywood with his performances in How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Malcolm Lee`s The Best Man.
